Bonding Hydrocolloid Techniques

1. To use the Cohere Material, it must be liquefied at boiling for 6-10 minutes, then cooled to a storage temperature of 145-155° F (65°C) for a minimum of 10 minutes.  Gingi-Pak recommends use of the new heater, the Dry Conditioner, which is programmed to heat, then store the material at the proper temperature for up to 5 days.  A hydrocolloid water conditioner may also be utilized.  Please note that Cohere material should not be boiled more than twice and it must always be cooled to a working temperature before use on the patient.  Make certain that a sufficient amount of Cohere material is heated to accommodate the preparation. A 2.5cc syringe will accommodate a quadrant and a 5.0cc Syringe is enough for a full arch, when used with alginate as the tray material.

2. To prepare the syringe, remove the protective cap and check flow by ejecting a small amount with the syringe in an upright position.

3. Immediately push the needle onto the COHERE syringe with a twisting motion which will secure the luer lock.  Note that the size 15 gauge has a larger diameter and will provide the greatest flow.

4. At the same time, have an auxiliary prepare the alginate tray with 10% to 15% extra water for slightly softer mix so there is less displacement of the COHERE syringe material.

5. Syringe COHERE material liberally around and into the sulcus and them completely cover the desired areas.

6. To avoid air bubbles in post impressions, insert needle to the upper most depth of the syringe while continuing to extrude COHERE, covering the entire tooth.

7. Immediately place tray in mouth.  Seat with moderate pressure then hold tray in position.  Do not allow patient to hold or bite down on tray.

8. When setting is complete (after two to three minutes), remove the tray with a SNAP.  Do not use an air nozzle nor ease the impression out slowly.
